William A. Rickards, III William A. "Bill" Rickards, III was born May 1, 1925 to William A. and Christine Rickards, Jr. who lived in the Olney section of Philadelphia. Bill attended Olney High School. The family moved to Moorestown NJ in October of 1942, and Bill transferred to Moorestown High School. When WWII broke out, Bill was drafted out of high school. He joined the US Army in August of 1943 and trained at Fort Bragg as an auto mechanic. He was then sent to Camp Carson in Colorado and trained in the Mule Team. He was deployed and served in Germany until April of 1946 with the rank of Private. Bill returned to find that his father had passed away during his deployment. Sadly, the Army had not delivered the notification. The family moved to Delanco in January of 1948 and lived at 230 Union Avenue until 1961. Bill finished his high school education in Philadelphia then went to work for RCA and later for the State of New Jersey. He never married.
